| [mu:n'pi:pl]about moonpeople history Many many years ago three seeds were planted. The first developed into the Subway Imperium [the GMC seed], the second brought forth The Deranged, New World Order Magazine and Ground Zero [the Plan9 seed], and the third brought them all together in a highly combustious chemistry [the venom seed], which was given the name moonpeople. [subway imperium] The Subway Imperium is the name of an organization founded lightyears away from earth. Where excactly isn't really important so we'll skip that bit. After some punching on a ZX-81 keypad in my younger years I discovered modems, and it wasn't much later that I discovered the world of internet (then unpolluted by web sites and e-commerce). Now the subway imperium runs it own web site, and the founder even writes editorials for web-zines. That's a lot of fancy words. A quick history update. The foundation of the current imperium is a 1200bps bulletin board service, back in the days when 1200bps was really fast. In those days cyberspace mainly consisted of echomail networks, where mail would be batched together. These batches would get switched over a star-shaped network of bbs-es. Among these networks were serious ones (eg. fido, aqui) and even more serious ones (/\lien, chaos and later cholera). Users of the latter networks (usually people you could find sleeping under a bridge with a desktop-pc clamped inside their arms) were mainly exchanging serious debates about really-not-so-serious subjects (eg. the amiga vs pc vendeta among others). The exact history of these networks might possibly be traced by clicking on the link http://chaos.concepts.nl/. Remember, the web's diameter is only 19 clicks (so they say). Anyway, the subway bbs with all it's echomail networking and all became more than just a mail switching host. It became a portal to cyberspace for all that's related with the subway imperium. In the past the subway imperium has had close contacts with other groups, of which you can read elsewhere on this page. On this occasion I would like everyone to remind the peace of the cemetry we all originated from. The current mission statement of the subway imperium is to create intelligent, communicating agents. Besides that, we are involved in an alliance of network freaks, linking up their local lan's through the internet and having all sorts of fun with their vpn. We also believe it is important to appreciate the advantages of all this technology without becoming a slave to the technology and the side effects. With that said, I'm just curious about this page and my involvement with it. Could someone inform me please what this page is about? I'm lost :) Left out at least half the facts. Enjoy. [The Deranged, Ground Zero and New World Order] Back in the days when a Personal Computer started to become the next new hype, Plan9 had already started The Deranged. The Deranged was the first demogroup from Twente and one of the first in the Netherlands. After releasing two Intros and two Musicdisks and experiencing some shit in the scene, Plan9 decided to bury the Deranged. Plan9's ideas for a Diskmagazine formed during the Deranged-period, but only after Ground Zero was formed (and Plan9 used the name Nothingface for a while), the New World Order Diskmagazine was officialy born. There's a total of eight issues of NWO released, although the last two issues were released by Weird Magic (of which Plan9 was also a member for a while). New World Order magazine's audience was the demoscene, but the articles never were all about the demoscene. It always tried to be different, weird and shocking maybe and it had reallife topics about things that were inspiring or pissing off the Ground Zero crew. Anyway, the magazine is dead for a couple of years now, and we don't plan to release new issues (and definitly not in that form again), but if you're interested in reading some of that old shite, then check the Releases, you'll find all issues there. Ground Zero released a couple of Intros and Demos over the years, some of which entered Party-competitions like The Party in Denmark or X-party in Holland. The situation in Ground Zero at some point became a little too frustrating for Plan9, so he buried Ground Zero and joined Weird Magic for a while. Plan9 released the FC-Twente demo with Weird Magic and one issue of NWO and kinda quit Weird Magic and formed moonpeople with the other two seeds. |
